The Door

and so now it’s your turn

go where many before have crossed in

imagination ignite

light up your craven corner of shadow might

dust covered opining labelled wisdom

beliefs absent of truth or foundation

single paragraph cardboard arguments

no mirror required to see

what and who you’ve let yourself become

you already know you know you know

attention to the details

humbled by the mystery of a big world

your connection to your silver sacred thread

slow ponderous pacing outlasts

impatient gains and irreversible consequence

of haste disguised as efficiency

veiled doggerel passed off as intellect

breathe deep some clean air

there must still be some out there somewhere

nudge with intent but remember the gentle side

entrance is always free

the door is never locked to possibility

still it is your mind the chains must be

loosed from before you can begin

blood flows and a heart beats steady within

when you decide again

to be compassionately human🪶

An Undignified Death

an undignified death
I suspect it was
asking to confirm
is undignified too
messengers awake
ruminations at midnight
I am therefore I think
I know
yet none can confirm
anything
but the aftermath
no pulse check check
review the preview
no chance for change
no wings appeared
nothing but darkness
and the guy in the other bed
mute but still breathing🪶

Circle of Stones

contemplation by quiet low light

gather the things that hold meaning

stand before a window framing

a world you belong to and

think you know

reach for the ceiling

expecting a sky open wide

open arms

spread your wings

close your eyes

sway awhile

you wait

no answers to fall

no wisdom arrives

you’ve only a circle of stones

power rests in your will to survive

your silent unrecognized skill

to rearrange them🪶

The Flow

endings

beginnings

what to carry

what to let go

complicate

simplify

shed

layer on

retreat

release

grab a fistful of grateful

hold it close keep it warm

past is past

none returns again

breathe out

breathe in

hold steady all possibility

of the moment you’re in🪶

Things I Find

there’s a gloss to these streets

bits of toss away debris

a cast off blue sweatshirt

wet and heavy from last night’s rain

so many windows on wheels

strangers passing going somewhere

walking thoughts may wander

eye on pavement eye on clouds in a grey sky

every journey is an add-to collection

see the tragedy of humanity see the joy

a yellow rose bloom in winter

tree limbs shaped like a giant waving bear

a tiny smiling elephant dancing

despite dirt and black mould

licking their way along the concrete wall

so close below🪶

After the Storm

Up there in the forest
expectations fall away
heart beats follow your
chosen footstep flow

if you tune into
breath becomes rhythmic
mind breaks free
except for mantra
‘I’m so glad’ you might hear
your own voice in whisper

to the cedars and the wind
No rules to be so quiet
yet treading light feels
right when you’re here🪶

What Does A Poet Know?

Siteseeing

on the other side of the world a privileged woman trek stumbles between one village and another/ she feels the autumn wind while climbing steep hills to view a wild and shimmering ever shifting sea/ dodging crowds she repeats mantras to hold onto sanity and kindness/ it’s open season on ancient wonders and civility/ so many photo ops and each one a smiling special feature subverts the object of the frame/ I am a tourist and why is it tourists must exemplify the obtrusive (and loud and lame)/ rainy days bring quiet albeit temporary reprieve/ big maple leaf on damp crosswalk stones reminds me of home/ it doesn’t mean I’m yet ready (unwilling) or driven (out) to go🪶

The World is Lonely

In the place of tall trees

I go walking

Bird song rises

Human sounds fade

One or two dog wanderers quiet smiling

Calm passages

Light flicks between flutter leaves

There’s a chair been delivered by someone

maybe needing a place sometimes to go

maybe needing away from their chaotic all

Maybe they close their eyes here and listen

simmer runaway minds and just hum

The world is abundant

All is possible

There’s joy of life and there’s beauty

There’s danger threat and fear

The world can feel so heavy

Humanity’s suffering is everywhere plenty

Some of us find less Lonesome in here🪶
