I climbed the wall
I wrote a song
There was no one~

I climbed the wall
I wrote a song
There was no one~

on my vacation this year I visited
the Gallery of Nothing
in a City of Nowhere someplace out of style
I heard that for entrance
no ticket’s needed no stamp no facial ID
doors of glass slid open in silence
‘remove footwear’ read a handwritten sign
no attendant in sight to ensure
my compliance
(so did I or didn’t I? hush hush is the story)
there were walls and long clear windows
there were many halls and airy rooms
no sounds but my heart’s slow beating
my low anticipatory breath
a room at the centre of the gallery
seemed larger than all of the rest
round dome ceiling of opaque glass
hickory floor shiny smooth so clean
I lifted my arms and spun round slow
awkward dancer absent of rhythm or grace
a blank screen tumbled from above
a flicker a blur a simple scene emerged
movement a body a face two eyes looking
looking straight out straight through me
caught in my half spin suspended
was there a pause I can’t say for certain
before we danced and turned soundlessly
this instructor framed in soft startled blur
a barefoot visitor on the edge of time
wandering vacationer seeking nothing
finding new solitude somewhere
that’s still open and free~

have you
ever wished
you had
your own
Little Chair
safe inside
an impenetrable
glass dome
shiny clear
could it
become your
comfort place
would it
be like
another home
a chair
a dome
you alone
who might
approach your
Steel Stairs
step light
hoping for
interaction while
you sit
naming all
the stars~

Early mornings I seek my solitude
where stillness nests my invisibility
breath deep and soft
heartbeat rhythms slow
blinks the evidence I am alive
Hummingbird wings arrive and go
distant calls of Raven‘s plans I cannot know
Song of bamboo chimes if there’s a breeze
Over there a tree sheds a leaf or two
I listen without alarm
contemplate stories I may someday tell
Is there perfection anywhere in this existence
Is recognition somehow a compromise
I don’t know
I am suspended amid light and shadow
a privileged watcher in the briefest of moments
while this sweet magnolia blossom glows
radiant with fragrant morning’s promise
in three days one by one her petals close🪶

when the half moon’s light
through my window woke me
I stepped outside
the night chill offered
a swift shift from slumber
I did not mind
all the world in quiet but for birds
and stealth nocturnals
am I one of those
thoughts stagger into odd realms
when dreams are paused
views we sleep through shine
without audience
backyard cherry tree becomes
a blossom cathedral
for the stone head garden face
who sings his predawn praises
under the stars🪶

I take a quiet slow high ride
offer my simple song to the wide sky
I let fall my hold on all I think I might
know except how small am I
how small am I🪶

contemplation by quiet low light
gather the things that hold meaning
stand before a window framing
a world you belong to and
think you know
reach for the ceiling
expecting a sky open wide
open arms
spread your wings
close your eyes
sway awhile
you wait
no answers to fall
no wisdom arrives
you’ve only a circle of stones
power rests in your will to survive
your silent unrecognized skill
to rearrange them🪶

Up there in the forest
expectations fall away
heart beats follow your
chosen footstep flow
if you tune into
breath becomes rhythmic
mind breaks free
except for mantra
‘I’m so glad’ you might hear
your own voice in whisper
to the cedars and the wind
No rules to be so quiet
yet treading light feels
right when you’re here🪶

Sunday morning early
stepping outside barefoot
witness
nature’s subtle satisfaction smile
last night’s lightning, thunder
and rain,
gift of change🪶

accepting the ugly
with unspoken malice
i slept unwell
in a tent too near
a Montana freeway
swamp water
in the near ditch stagnant still
as the campfire faded
i might have lit a cigarette
if it were a scene
from a western film
Veil of darkness
so apropos for the circumstance
what painter arranged such a sky?
who for a brief gap halted traffic’s flow
while I and my fortunate eyes
witnessed swamp grass transformed to deep gold
freeway slip into shadows
village of conifers rise in dark silhouette attention
full moon ascend like a promise from the ether
a calming elixir for my mind🪶
