In the Wind

lightness of being

this is your last breath

what is there to hold back

the attraction to falling

inhale

deep as you can dive

close your eyes tight

twenty seconds is enough

time

consider options

no distractions

go on go on

give in to lachrymose beckonings

succumb

it’s a dirty old village

perpetual tears and moaning thrive there

look over the edge

listen

symphony of the abyss exists

exhale

but don’t go

you don’t have to go

it’s only today you’re on hands and knees

from your belly

survival summons

between your core and the earth below

soft winds of possibility whisper

last night

did you see the seven planets

effulgent angels dancing

can you feel the touch

the kiss of this new morning

hope and promise in your sky~

And So

for now nothing but the rain

in the aftermath of solstice

subtle rivers flow on

slipping into depths unseen

stars hover in the cosmos

guardians or voyeurs

too distant to discern

moon lingers into dawn

quiet light

reflects in your eyes

what thoughts have you today

what troubles what joys

what promises do you make

to no one in case you don’t

follow through

praise the winter moth

there amid a strand of old man’s beard

and cedar bark from the forest floor

hope fluttering in its wings~

Dark As Anyone

tension clouds in the air today

tension everywhere and every way

walking around eyes to the ground

suspicion grinds it’ll take you down

sometimes I don’t want what it is I see

so much cracked fragmented humanity

Tom Waits says a song is like a prayer

a letter sent to somebody way out there

scribble me one I promise I’ll read

somebody willing to plant a good seed

I lean in close to the sound I hear

find hope in thin slivers of possibility🪶

Hope In An Age of Greed, Inequities, Starvation, and War

sometimes I leave my radio on

all night, allowing the flow

uncensored to enter, knowing

I will intake even the unsavoury—

opinions offered by those whose voices

to whom while awake

I would not wish to lend my ear

reports of horrors unfolding in places

to people I have no chance of saving

Probably this habit is unwise

oblivion and obfuscation are soothers

I might benefit from if only

I could learn to turn off that weak

aspect I cannot seem to reach

My hands will not allow my fingers

to unfold, to turn off the knowing dial

My empathy my horror my sorrow

outrage—-futile as it feels

still that I do feel, is confirmation

enough that I am still human

In the small sphere of this space that

is my privilege to occupy

I seek to be, to strive for better

some small nick of refuge in the chaos

I forage for balance amid cruelty

tune my ears to professors of peace

I stumble into the forest to commune

with the ragged beauty of nature

drink her sacred nectar to sustain me

I travel toward the rhythm of the drum

at the heart of true humanity

and I trust there is some distant day

wherein a pause will occur

a purifying rainfall

a deliverance of calm

a comprehensive gnosis

received in all languages

And then a universal agreement

declaring all lives of intrinsic value

conflict quieted for eternity

Hope dances with Possibility

the hopeful are tireless in our quest🪶

Song of the World

I woke to the sound of singing
voices of the world
some are joyful
some in pain
experience, innocence
young, elders, boys and girls
I heard the songs of great lamenting
for hunger, cruelty, and shame
I heard the whispers of remembrance
and hope that still remains

Bare Windows

DhExgvWjSv6iOkt9F5DQsQ_thumb_9b5e

I look out upon the landscape

broken hearts lay everywhere

no covers on these windows

no shades no shelter from harsh mouthed mothers of opinion

no words of wisdom or compassion too few hands to care

but I hear night stars still tell wonder stories

and if we listen they will shine our fears away

when we feel lost or sad or lonely

when we’re tossed into chaos winds of if only

silent stars are rising up to guide the way

One of These Days

One of these days

you’ll see you’ll see

Civility will

return

It will be cool again

to smile

to say hello

welcome you stranger
One of these days

you’ll see you’ll see

Love will

prevail

It will be cool again

to reach

to say alright

take my hand
One of these days

you’ll see you’ll see

Humility will

rise

It will be cool again

to surrender

to say everything

with open minds
One of these days

you’ll see you’ll see

Honesty will

dominate

It will be cool again

to aspire

to say quality

reflects the light
One of these days

you’ll see you’ll see

Possibility will

multiply

It will be cool again

to imagine

to say knowledge

belongs to everyone
One of these days

you’ll see you’ll see

Greatness will

elevate

It will be cool again

to understand

to say yes

everyone here belongs

In that moment you have a choice

There’s always a choice.

Someone free said that once.

Afterward.

In that moment when you’re convinced

you’ve heard the crack of bone

your leaking heart losing faith

dissonant grace

felt it, felt yourself

You know with certainty something has broken

What comes next?

Even if you don’t know yet if there’s anything there

worth groping for, worth saving—

Can you hear the music through the roar and rumble

Can you still hum some favourite tune

a few bars to hold onto

some sorrowful blues maybe

some cowboy gush of lonely bravado

some whimsical ditty

to carry you through?
